What is the difference between ASTM A269 TP321 bright annealing tube and hardening?
Bright annealing is a heat treatment process wherein the tube is heated to a specific temperature in a controlled atmosphere. It helps to prevent oxidation and achieve a smooth, polished surface finish. SA 269 Gr 321 Bright Annealed Tubes have improved corrosion resistance and appearance. During the process, the austenitic structure of the ss is retained, and the tubing becomes softer and more ductile.
Hardening involves heating the ASTM A269 Grade 321 Condenser Tube to a higher temperature and then rapidly cooling it to transform its microstructure. This results in a harder and stronger structure. The process helps to increase the hardness and strength of the tubing.

Does SA 269 TP 321 welded tube rust?
ASTM A269 Grade TP321 ERW Tube shows excellent corrosion resistance in various environments. Under normal conditions, the tubes should not rust easily. The presence of chromium and other alloying elements forms a passive oxide layer on the surface. This acts as a protective barrier that prevents the underlying metal from reacting with the surrounding environment.
However, ensure the ASTM A269 Gr TP321 Heater Tubes are used and maintained properly to preserve their corrosion resistant properties. If exposed to aggressive chemicals, the passive layer may become compromised causing potential corrosion over time.
