What is ASTM A312 UNS S31254 Pipe?

ASTM A312 UNS S31254 comprises stainless steel pipes welded and seamless where the material grade is 254 SMO (UNS S31254). It has very good resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride stress corrosion cracking and is thus ideal for environments with high corrosion rate.

This alloy is mainly chromium–molydenum–nickel alloy with nitrogen always as an added element; the approximate composition is: Cr 20%–22%, Mo 6%–7%, Ni 18%–20%, and nitrogen increasing its strength and corrosion resistance, particularly in chloride-bearing environments such as in seawater, working in paper, pulp, and chemical industries.

Pipes manufactured from ASTM A312 UNS S31254 are often used in extreme services where a material with high performance characteristics in a harsh environment is needed. This includes marine, chemical, oil and gas, and wastewater treatment industries that require material strength and corrosion resistance.

It also provides improved weldability, formability, and smooth outer surfaces that are crucial in sanitary and high-purity uses of pipes. ASTM A312 UNS S31254 pipes possess desirable mechanical properties, including tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation, making them suitable for applications under conditions of high pressures and temperatures. They are especially used in pressure systems, heat exchangers, and other particularly demanding applications that require good corrosion resistance.
