SA 268 TP 405 boiler tubes

What are SA 268 TP 405 boiler tubes?

The SA 268 TP 405 material consists of 12% chromium steel alloy and used in welded conditions. Due to its chemical composition, the material is not sustainable for excessive hardening. when air cooled from a high temperature. The ASTM A268 TP405 material is quite soft and ductile, which means it can be easily machined using standard procedures. It also has high formability.

The SA 268 TP 405 Boiler Tubes are primarily used as a structural material in heat exchanger equipment. It shows good performance in continuous service up to 1300 °F and intermittent service up to 1500 degrees F. it does not harden much when air cooled from an elevated temperature where some austenite might be there. The Stainless Steel 405 Pipe also have applications in steam nozzles, annealing boxes, partitions, quenching racks and fabrications that cannot be annealed post the welding process.

What is 405 stainless steel seamless tube used for?

The 405 stainless steel seamless tube is capable of resisting high temperature and it shows marginal corrosion resistance. The tubes do not have any weak seams like welded tube, and thus it is stronger and offer better leakage projection.

The UNS S40500 Cold Drawn Seamless Tube is used for annealing boxes, quenching racks, partitions, steam nozzles, and other fabrications that cannot be annealed after the welding procedure. The seamless 405 tubes can be used in chemical plants.

Welding techniques of Stainless steel 405 pipe

The SA268 TP405 Coil Tubing can be welded using the shielded fusion and resistance technique. The usual oxyacetylene welding procedure is not recommended for them. It is advised to use 405 Cb electrodes containing columbium that aluminum so as to control hardening.

The post weld annealing process 405 Welded Tube will maximize its ductility. The welded tubes are much affordable than the seamless ones as they are easier to produce. However, their seam can be a weak point which can cause leakage in some cases.
