What is ASTM A270 sanitary tubing?
A270 specification standardizes the tubes for various sanitary applications. The Stainless Steel Sanitary Tube is available in both welded and seamless variants and grades like 304, 304L, 3016, 316L, etc. The ASTM A270 Sanitary Tubing has a special surface finish and are used in industries like dairy & food, bio processing equipment, etc. Their smooth surface ensures there are no pores present which can accumulate material build up or bacteria. All these tubes are supplied after hot treatment.
What is BPE stainless steel tubing?
The BPE Stainless Steel Tubing have high purity and are manufactured according to the ASTM A270 standard. These tubes are generally made from cold rolled strips of different ss grades. Their chemical elements are controlled for improving the weldability. The ASME BPE Pipe is also bright annealed in a controlled atmosphere as it help preserve maximum structural integrity.

Advantages of 304L sanitary tubes
304L grade is the low carbon version of the 304 ss and hence very similar to 304 Stainless Steel Sanitary Tubing. They show good corrosion resistance in oxidizing environment and encourage carbon precipitation elimination during welding. They are moderately resistant to aggressive organic acids. The material do not require weld annealing, except in high stress applications.

What are 180, 240, or 320 grit finish?
The 180, 240, or 320 grit finish are performed on the ASTM A270 Tubing solution. 180 is the fine grit that helps to remove scratches left by coarser grits. The 240 grit also helps to remove surface defects on metals, like stainless steel. 320 is very fine grit used for light sanding.
ASTM A270 vs 3A sanitary tubing
ASTM A270 Tubes are made of austenitic stainless steel grade, which is acid proof. It has been cold-worked for providing a min tensile strength of 700 MPa. 304L vs 316L sanitary tubing
There is a difference in the chemical composition of the both Hygienic SS Tubing grades. This is why the 316L shows resistance to sulphuric acid at low concentration, whereas 304L shows sulphuric acid resistance even at a high concentration. Also, 316L shows better resistance to phosphoric acid than 304L.
Difference between mechanical polish & electro polish stainless steel sanitary tubing

Whereas, electropolishing uses chemicals and electricity for dissolving the surface layer and expose the smoother layer inside.
